Senior Chorus Guidelines
Grades 9-12
The goal of the Senior Chorus during the first semester is to work as an ensemble, learning choral repertoire and proper singing habits, culminating with the Christmas Concert on Sunday, December 8, 2013.
This semester-long course is based on participation, so each student begins with a 97, an “A.” 80% of the grade is participation/testing, 20% is concert attendance. Grading cannot be based on the instrument, which God has given you. Going the “extra mile” will result in an “A+.” Observations will be made during each rehearsal which include –
Singing – Are you singing?
Preparation – Do you have your music? Are you sitting where you were placed? Are you chewing gum? Are you tardy?
Attentiveness – Are you marking the music as asked? Are you watching the Conductor? Are you singing in the manner that was asked? Are you ready to sing when the Conductor is ready to start the piece? Are you talking when you are not singing?
Enthusiasm – Are you working toward the Concert goal? Are you respectful of the Conductor and the other singers?
Music for the concert will be memorized. This gives the ensemble the best choral sound during performances. It also provides the best view of the conductor.
Testing in small groups of 9-12 people will occur during the weeks following the Concert. This will show the Conductor your personal preparation and knowledge of the music. All music will be returned by the end of the semester. Your music is your textbook for chorus. If you loose it, you will pay the current retail value of the music – including copied music.
CLASS RULES
Be ready for warm-ups when the bell rings.
Sit in the seats assigned during the placement process. This contributes to the best choral sound of the entire ensemble.
No chewing gum. Besides blocking the mouth while singing, it can be a choking hazard.
Be ready to sing when the Conductor is ready.
Be courteous and respectful of the other singers.
CONSEQUENCES
If the student causes a distraction, it will be noted. Three (3) distractions result in a 5-point loss off the participation portion of the grade.
Gum chewing will be reminded each Chorus rehearsal for the month of September. After that, if you are noticed chewing gum, there will be a 3-point loss off of the participation grade.
ALWAYS
Be Respectful. Be Responsible. Be Resourceful.
