Discovery of Music
This semester long course introduces freshman to music as art and not just entertainment by
enlightening the students’ perception of the music and to develop their ability in listening to
music as opposed to just hearing music. Students learn and subsequently demonstrate this
difference after listening to a wide range of music. Once accomplished, students move into the
Colonial American period and the role music played through the Revolutionary War and the War
of 1812 culminating in a web quest about the US National Anthem.
